Welcome to Visit-the-World's Puertorico section ...

Visit Puertorico

Visit Puertorico - Gran Canaria

Puerto Rico is the Spanish for "Rich Port". Hence, the name was given to various bountiful new ports established to serve Spain, especially in the Americas.

There is even a Puerto Rico in land-locked Bolivia. It is in the upper reaches of one of the many tributaries of the Madeira river that flows into the
Amazon.

To Americans, of course, Puerto Rico means only one place; the
Caribbean Island in the Antilles, to the east of the Dominican Republic. This has almost become the 51st State of the United States, such are its close links with America. It does, in fact, have the status of a "Self-Governing Commonwealth of USA". It has roughly the same population as Wales in half the land area. The capital is San Juan, on the north coast. Tens of thousands of Puerto Ricans have settled in the USA, especially in New York City.

However, to the majority of users of visit-the-world.co.uk, especially those based in the United Kingdom and the rest of Europe,  Puerto Rico  can only mean one travel destination .... an ocean away from the  Caribbean and Americas!

It is a very popular tourist resort on the south coast of Gran Canaria, in
the Canary Islands.

Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria, due west of Playa del Ingles and
Maspalomas, is at the mouth of a fairly steep-sided valley, facing south.
Therefore, the lovely sandy beach, at the bottom, is a sheltered sun-trap, cut off from the wind on the three coolest sides. It can get Hot! Hot!! Hot!!!

It is a resort that revolves around  fun, sun and parties, with plenty of
watersports, as well. The promenade has a string of pavement cafes and
restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. There are also two marinas, offering boat trips to view dolphins and whales, plus voyages along the coast to truly beautiful, traditionally-styled Puerto Mogan with its hanging flowers. Not to be missed!!

Much of the accommodation, and several bars in Puerto Rico, are at the
top of a steep hill, which does not suit those with walking difficulties. However, there are buses and taxis to save the ascent. Legging it is one way of working up a thirst!!

This resort is particularly popular with fun-loving northern Europeans,
especially Scandinavians, Dutch, Irish and, of course, the British!

It is a great place to come for some winter warmth and sunshine when
most of Europe is shivering  or sheltering from the rain!

Why gaze at grey skies and pounding rain in Britain, when you can
escape on a cheap last minute holiday to sunny Puerto Rico in the Canaries, courtesy of Visit-the-World.co.uk?

Travel and tourism are one of the main recreation activities of the modern world, both in the United Kingdom and internationally. Travelers in previous times went on pilgrimage or traveled for trade and exploration. Most people would not have the opportunities of long distance travel that we have nowadays.

We can travel by foot, by car, bus, train, airplane, boat, taxi, hovercraft, motorbike, bicycle, quad-bike or whatever. We can go to pretty much anywhere we fancy. Anyone of us can use websites like this one (visit-the-world.com) to book our flights and our accommodation, even booking a car can all be done on-line in a matter of minutes.

International travel is a favourite pastime for many people. Literally millions of us fly and cruise to exotic destinations for a break and to get a new angle on the world. Some people take up to four foreign holidays a year. Whilst there are endless holidays and adventures to be enjoyed abroad there are also many wonderful sights and experiences available in the UK.

Why not take a trip of a lifetime to the destination of your choice and write an internet blog (weblog) of your travel experiences. You can also post your holiday photos on your blog and share them with friends, family and other worldwide web users. If you have a mini video camera you could make a holiday video telling the story of your travel adventures. You could put this onto a DVD and also post it online.

The world is full of variety and there is no end to the possible holdays or journeys that are available. There is a complete range of choice for every traveller. All that we have to do is choose where we want to go and what we want to do and enjoy our holiday!

Ticket sales are handled by Holiday Express (ABTA No. E8585) retail agents for ATOL holders.
